New Brazil eVisa 2025 Explained

by | Apr 19, 2025 | Travel

Overview

Traveling to Brazil just became slightly more tedious for Americans, Canadians, and Australians, but don’t worry it’s not as bad as some may be painting it out to be. In this article I’ll be clearly laying out the new requirements for the eVisa that Brazil is now mandating citizens of the aforementioned countries to get before they can enjoy the beautiful vibrant culture, landscape, food, and people of Brazil.

Brazil first began talks of reinstating the visa requirement back in 2023 based on the principle of reciprocity- meaning that countries that require Brazilians to have a visa to travel to them will, in return, require their citizens acquire visas to come to Brazil. Initially the eVisa was planned to go into effect on October 1st, 2023, but was then postponed to January 2024 and once again to April 2024. After efforts to negotiate reciprocal visa-free arrangements fell through, Brazil has finally enacted the eVisa requirement as of April 10, 2025. To make things easier on you, we will list all of the requirements here so that you can head straight to the application without any further work or digging around.

This will be a “living article” meaning any changes or updates to the requirements will be reflected here. To get started with the application, go to the official eVisa website with all of your documents ready for uploading:

Cost

$80.90 USD will be the cost of the Brazilian eVisa for Americans, Canadians, and Australians. Relatively cheap compared to many other visas out there, especially when considering the costs associated with visiting the United States.

Processing Time

10 days is the processing time stated on the official eVisa application page, which is quite fast. Further delays can occur if you don’t fill out your application properly or are missing documents. Make sure you have everything in order to ensure you won’t delay the process.

General Required Documents

The following documents are required for all American, Canadian, or Australian travelers going to Brazil as tourists or for business:

  • Visa application form (emailed to you)
  • Valid Passport
    • Color scan of the bio page (pictured above)
    • Has to be valid for at least 6 months before travel
    • 2 free pages available in your passport book
  • Passport-style photo in color
    • 2.5 x 4.5 cm
    • White background

Traveling with children or minors under 18

If you are traveling with children under 18 or infants, the following will also be required in addition to the documents above:

  • Original birth certificate
  • Signed Authorization for Issuance of Brazilian Visa for a Minor (must be signed by both parents and notarized):
    • If only one parent is listed on the birth certificate, only that parent’s signature is required
    • If one parent has sole custody of the minor, a notarized copy of the court order awarding sole custody and exclusive parental rights must be presented
    • If one parent is deceased, a death certificate must be presented
    • Copy of passports or other form of official photo IDs for both parents.

Traveling for Business

If you are traveling for business, the following will also be required in addition to the general required documents:

  • Letter from either U.S. or Brazilian company on company stationery, signed by a manager/director/supoervisor, stating the following information:
    1. Nature of company’s/organization’s business or activities in Brazil
    2. Applicant’s title, job description and monthly salary.
    3. Nature of business and activities to be conducted by applicant in Brazil
    4. Name(s) and address(es) of Brazilian company(ies) with which applicant will conduct business.
    5. Contact(s) in Brazil: name(s), phone number(s) and corresponding position(s)
    6. Expected travel dates.
    7. Affirmation of company’s financial support of applicant while in Brazil
    8. Affirmation that applicant will not provide any technical assistance or perform any salaried work while in        Brazil (such activities require a VITEM V temporary work visa)

Visa Allowances and Restrictions

  • For citizens of the United States, the visa will be valid for 10 years. For citizens of Canada and Australia, the visa is valid for 5 years.
  • Visa allows you to stay in Brazil for 90 days per year (can be extended to an additional 90 days for $19.02 USD or R$110.44).
  • The eVisa for travel or business will not be valid for work or study at Brazilian companies or educational institutions.
  • The eVisa is not applicable to Brazilian nationals or people with dual Brazilian citizenship.
  • If your eVisa was issued on a passport that is now expired, it is still valid but you will need to bring the expired passport when traveling in addition to your new, valid passport.
